Tenet Care Fund: rebuilding lives after unexpected hardships

Tenet Care Fund logoEstablished in 2010, the Tenet Care Fund is a 501(c) (3) public charity that provides financial assistance to employees who have experienced catastrophic events including natural disasters, extended illnesses and injuries, and unexpected emergencies.

The Care Fund not only provides financial assistance, but it provides hope for employees when faced with hardships and life-altering circumstances. The program also serves as an established and easy way for team members to get involved, stay engaged, and give to a good cause.

“Tenet’s mission is to provide quality, compassionate care in the communities we serve,” stated Dee Stone, Tenet Care Fund administrator and Manager, Leadership and Talent Development. “We cannot provide that care without the continued dedication of our employees. The Tenet Care Fund was created to help those employees when they need it most. It is inspiring to witness the generosity of our team members, leaders, and community partners. The Care Fund could not be successful without their kindness and wiliness to give.”

Eddie Sanchez and his wife have been married for more than 30 years. Eddie is a social worker at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX, and his wife is a paraprofessional for the athletic department of a local high school. In 2021, Eddie’s wife experienced several medical issues that left her unable to work. At the urging of his supervisor, Eddie applied for a Care Fund grant to help meet financial obligations.

Mr and Mrs. Sanchez“I always had hope that everything would be okay, but I was not sure how I was going to pay for it all on my own. It was difficult to ask for help, but once I received the Care Fund approval letter, an overwhelming sense of relief occurred. I cannot thank Tenet and the Care Fund enough for helping my family not only be able to pay our bills and mortgage, but it allowed us to have a Thanksgiving. I am blessed to work for a wonderful organization that truly cares about its employees.” – Eddie Sanchez, social worker at Valley Baptist Medical Center

The Care Fund was founded by Tenet employees and is funded by donations primarily from employees.

The charity is comprised of a board of directors and Care committee which serve as stewards of the program and review each application. The committee oversees all assistance requests to ensure that the grants awarded meet specific criteria and guidelines.
