St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital Announces Emergency Department Expansion
St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in the San Antonio Medical Center recently kicked off $18 million in renovations to their Emergency Department (ED), one of the busiest EDs in San Antonio. Planned upgrades will transform 5,500 square feet of space into a newly modernized ED, designed to help reduce wait times for patients and meet the growing demand for immediate and outstanding emergency care in the Medical Center area.
The renovation also will support further advancement in stroke patient treatment, in association with the hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Center.
St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital sees more than 1,600 patients each month. Renovations to the ED will include two additional EMS bays, and three more ED beds. Three “Right Care, Right Place” Rooms will be added to enhance care for lower acuity patients. Renovations also will add patient beds to increase the hospital’s medical-surgical care capacity. A new, more spacious, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing waiting area also will be added.
Vicki Gulczewski, CEO of St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital, said the enhancements represent Baptist Health System’s continued commitment to the community and are the result of a careful assessment of evolving trends in health care and emergency care delivery. “We are proud to make improvements that will benefit our neighborhood’s most vulnerable patients – those in need of emergency care,” Gulczewski said. “
Renovations are scheduled for completion in May 2026.
