Tenet Donates $2.5M for Facility to Address Homelessness in Palm Springs
Tenet Health’s Desert Care Network donated $2.5 million to support a 61-unit affordable housing complex with wraparound healthcare and social services in Palm Springs, California. Desert Care Network includes three hospitals that serve the desert communities: Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio, and Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree. As safety-net hospitals for their region, Desert Care Network sees the impact of homelessness in its emergency rooms each day.
The project, called Vista Sunrise II, “was just a very natural fit to what we see as a huge need in the community,” said Michele Finney, CEO for Desert Care Network. The project includes 30 apartments dedicated to rapid rehousing for those who are homeless, and another 30 units for those with chronic illnesses and/or low incomes. A housing manager resides on site.
The complex was completed in June 2024 and was entirely filled with residents by the ribbon-cutting in October. The apartments share a campus with DAP Health, a federally qualified health center (FQHC) that offers primary and mental health care, dental, case management services, reemployment training, and nutrition services.
