The Hospitals of Providence East Campus achieves national recognition for weight loss program

The Hospitals of Providence East Campus joins an elite group of hospitals achieving national accreditation from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) by the American College of Surgeons. The Hospitals of Providence Weight Loss Center East was recognized as a Comprehensive Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Hospitals being recognized as a MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center have demonstrated that bariatric surgery patients receive care from a multidisciplinary team of providers that strives to improve patient outcomes and long-term success. MBSAQIP accredited centers focus on tracking outcomes of patients who undergo bariatric surgery and providing continuous quality improvement processes to make sure patients receive the highest level of care.

“This is an incredible accomplishment by our dedicated team, but more importantly it is a testament of the high-quality care we are providing each and every patient,” said Dr. Michael Lara, Board-Certified Bariatric Surgeon. “At our weight loss center, we customize a plan to meet the individual needs of each patient and the results our patients see are significant - weight loss, an increase in mobility and energy and for some being able to reduce or stop medications they’ve been required to take due to health conditions as a result of obesity.”

The Hospitals of Providence Weight Loss Center East along with The Hospitals of Providence Weight Loss Center West now both maintain the MBSAQIP designation, proudly making them the most extensive bariatric program in the region.

“Since our Weight Loss Center East opened in 2021, our team has been committed to providing patients with personalized care throughout their weight loss journey,” said Tasha Hopper, Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus. “This achievement truly reflects the level of commitment our team has in providing high quality outcomes and helping our patients reach their life and weight loss goals.”

The Weight Loss Center East and West are designed to help patients reach their health goals by exploring the lifelong benefits of weight loss surgery and regaining improvement in their quality of life. The 13-week program includes a range of resources before surgery, in addition to access to post-operative care, support groups, and nutritional counseling.
