Mission Trail Baptist Hospital expands access to prenatal care in San Antonio

Baptist Health System is enhancing and expanding women’s services at Mission Trail Baptist Hospital with the opening of a new Healthy Women’s Center, which brings access to early pregnancy care for women in southeast San Antonio.

“This new resource is helping women receive access to early prenatal care to achieve a healthy pregnancy and safe delivery,” said Liza Denman, Chief Strategy Officer for Women’s Services at Baptist Health System. “Our women’s centers connect patients with resources and unique navigation throughout their pregnancy journey.”

Like the four other Healthy Women’s Centers located across San Antonio, the Mission Trail location offers free, walk-in pregnancy testing, assistance applying for insurance and Medicaid eligibility, physician referral, information on community assistance resources, follow up appointments throughout the woman’s pregnancy, and pre-registration support with the patient’s hospital of choice.

“The new women’s center at Mission Trail works closely with ER care coordinators to connect patients with care that can help prevent further ER visits and establish regular appointments with an OB/GYN,” said Erik Frederick, Mission Trail CEO.

“In some cases, the first-time women are seen by a physician for their pregnancy is in the Emergency Room at Mission Trail when something has gone wrong,” said Nicholas Bown, M.D., Emergency Physician at Mission Trail. “Early prenatal care can help keep women out of the hospital for the health and safety of their babies.”

Mission Trail Baptist Hospital recently earned Neonatal Level II designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services, which commended the hospital for its commitment to quality care and the commitment to patients.
