Cristo Rey Interns

Teaching and Supporting Future Tenet Colleagues

Moving Health Forward

At Tenet, we are dedicated to supporting the educational development of high school students across the country.

In Dallas, the Corporate Offices for Tenet and United Surgical Partners International (USPI) collaborate with Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep to host high school interns through the school’s Corporate Work Study Program. Participation in the program is a requirement by the school and gives students real work experience and mentorship opportunities. Students fulfill clerical and administrative roles in a wide range of departments such as accounting, human resources (HR), finance, marketing, information technology, legal, records, mail and office services.

The primary responsibilities of Cristo Rey interns at Tenet and USPI include data entry, file and supply organization, publishing files on the employee intranet site and recruiting projects for HR.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to move out of my comfort zone and learn basic business and communication skills through this internship,” said Mateo Villarreal, a Cristo Rey junior and intern at Tenet’s Corporate Office. “My favorite part of the job is my coworkers and the conversations we have in the office and at lunch.”

Tenet also gives high school students the opportunity to explore various aspects of the healthcare industry through its Student Board of Directors program at The Hospitals of Providence (THOP) in El Paso, Texas. In addition, Tenet offers “Volunteen” programs to give high school students the opportunity to take part in the patient experience and work alongside colleagues at our facilities including West Boca Medical Center (WBMC) in Boca Raton, Florida.

“I love volunteering at WBMC because the environment is very professional,” said ThuWest Boca Medical Center Volunteer Thu Tuot Tuot, one of the hospital’s Volunteens. “Everyone is so nice to each other, and I get to work at different units around the hospital to gain more experience for my future career. The hospital’s idea is to obviously help people, and I feel the same way, too. I really enjoy volunteering here.”

We are proud to host Volunteens at many of our other facilities, including Doctors Hospital of Manteca, Doctors Medical Center of Modesto, San Ramon Regional Medical Center and Twin Cities Community Hospital in California; Florida Medical Center and North Shore Medical Center in Florida; Detroit Medical Center in Michigan; Coastal Carolina Hospital, East Cooper Medical Center, Hilton Head Hospital, and Piedmont Medical Center in South Carolina; MetroWest Medical Center in Massachusetts; and Baptist Health System and THOP in Texas.
