DMC Harper University Hospital is one of the oldest teaching hospitals in the nation, serving patients from around the world for more than 150 years. In 1952, a surgeon at the hospital partnered with General Motors to develop the first mechanical heart pump, which made open-heart surgery possible. In addition, DMC Harper University Hospital has been recognized nationally as a Best Hospital for 2017-18 in Diabetes and Endocrinology; Neurology and Neurosurgery; Gastroenterology; and GI Surgery and Nephrology by U.S. News & World Report.
