To better meet the emergency needs of its community, Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, South Carolina, added four new beds and two new rooms to its Emergency Department (ED). The expansion increases the number of beds from 12 to 16, and the total number of rooms from eight to 10.
“As the community grows, we’re responding to patient demands,” said Joel Taylor, CEO of Coastal Carolina Hospital. “This expansion boosts the ED’s capacity to provide patient care by 33 percent.”
The addition of two rooms includes one psychiatric-safe bed to provide care for patients with behavioral health conditions and three fast track beds for lower acuity patients.
“When patients arrive in our ED, they’re assigned and triaged based on their condition. Fast track provides emergency-level care for those who have less severe injuries and illnesses,” said Terri Duncan, director, Critical Care Services. “Having these three new fast track beds allows us to serve all of our emergency patients sooner and care for them more efficiently.”
