Tenet hospitals across the country are making moves by staying active and educating the public on healthy living in recognition of April’s National Move More Month, a designation by the American Heart Association (AHA) that encourages people to increase their physical activity for improved health. Colleagues are excited to participate, as physical activity is important to prevent heart disease and stroke, the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers.

Twenty-seven Tenet hospitals earned an “A” in the April 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. Overall Tenet earned a Leapfrog GPA of 3.18 and continues to perform significantly above the national average GPA of 2.80.

Every second counts when someone is suffering from uncontrolled bleeding. According to BleedControl.org, victims can die within five to 10 minutes. In an effort to educate the public about proper bleeding control techniques in emergencies, Tenet colleagues are participating in the “Stop the Bleed” campaign, which launched in 2015 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona, is celebrating 30 years of helping patients recover from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). The program began in 1987, adding to the hospital’s already established cardiac rehabilitation program, which began in 1974. This was the first in Arizona and first of its kind west of Mississippi.

Florida Medical Center (FMC) is the first hospital in Broward County to achieve accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Bariatric and Robotic Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). The Bariatric and Robotic Center of Excellence Accreditations recognizes this hospital for providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

At 45 years old, Natan Camhi lives his life to the fullest. When he is not busy working in construction, he serves as the lead guitarist for a heavy metal band. For years, Natan has excited audiences with his music and energy onstage. Because of his fast-paced lifestyle, he grew especially concerned after a series of unusual symptoms slowed him down.

As part of Tenet’s mission to help people live happier, healthier lives, colleagues at the Corporate Office in Dallas kicked off National Volunteer Month by serving at the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA). The VNA is known for its Meals on Wheels program, which provides hot, nutritious, freshly-prepared meals to Dallas County residents who cannot provide for themselves due to illness, advanced age or disability.

The nurses at MetroWest Medical Center in Massachusetts are helping families cope through its “Heartbeat in a Bottle” initiative, which gives families a printed copy of their loved one’s electrocardiogram (EKG) in a clear bottle.
