Approximately one in 10 people over the age of 75 in the U.S. alone are living with a leaky heart valve – also known as Mitral Regurgitation (MR). A leaky heart valve is a serious, progressive heart condition in which the flaps of the mitral valve, one of the heart’s four valves, do not close properly, allowing blood to flow backward into the heart. This can cause symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue. Left untreated, a leaky valve can lead to heart failure and death.
