Christina Spotts | Surgery Center Scheduler
Southwestern Ambulatory Surgery Center
West Mifflin, Pennsylvania
Christina Spotts, surgery scheduler at Southwestern ASC in Pennsylvania, knows that the need for blood products has only become more necessary during this crisis. Feeling the call to help and having a supportive team willing to participate, Christina worked to arrange a blood drive to be held at their surgery center.
On April 3rd, following appointments-only, pre-screening, social distancing and all CDC-recommendations, Vitalant, one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit community blood service providers, held a "sold-out” blood drive at the facility. Southwestern Staff and family members were among those who donated. Due to the high response from the staff and community, a second "sold-out" blood drive was held on April 28th.
As a direct result of Christina’s efforts, 22 individuals registered to donate, and 20 blood products were collected. These blood products will help critically ill newborn babies, patients being treated for cancer, those suffering from traumatic injuries and many others.
