Tenet Healthcare Foundation was established in 1998 by Tenet Healthcare Corporation to make grants to worthy organizations for a variety of charitable purposes. The Foundation directs the majority of its funding to helping meet unmet or underserved health care needs in the communities in which Tenet operates its hospitals and other facilities. Secondarily, the Foundation makes grants in support of appropriate educational, social service, civic and humanities-supporting organizations. Grants are made to charitable organizations designated as tax-exempt as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Priorities
The Foundation places greater emphasis on funding grants that meet specific criteria. These criteria include:

  • Organizations recommended by Tenet facilities and regional offices.
  • Single-year funding (as opposed to multi-year commitments).
  • Projects that eliminate duplication of services and encourage collaboration among existing programs.
  • Model projects that have a strong possibility for replication.
  • Projects whose purpose is clear, whose direction is specific and whose effects can be evaluated.

Program Restrictions
The Foundation does not award grants to certain types of organizations or for specific types of activities. These restrictions include:

  • Direct funding for hospital operations.
  • Individuals.
  • Fraternal, labor, political or veterans organizations.
  • Religious-based activities for the purpose of furthering religious doctrine.
  • Travel expenses or cultural exchange programs for individuals.

Proposals may be submitted at any time during the year. Proposals are considered in the order received. Contributions made by the Foundation cannot be construed as establishing entitlement to further contributions, or as establishing precedents for similar contributions to other organizations.
