JUNE 10, 2004 – Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) announced today that veteran corporate executive James A. Unruh has been named to the company’s board of directors. He becomes the board’s ninth member and will join its governance and audit committees.
Unruh, 63, currently serves as principal of Alerion Capital Group, a private equity firm based in Phoenix. From 1990 to 1997, he was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Unisys Corporation, a global information management company.
“We are delighted to welcome Jim to our board,” said Edward A. Kangas, Tenet’s chairman. “His strong background in finance and accounting as well as his years of senior management experience with large companies will be a great help as we continue to address the many challenges that Tenet faces.”

Unruh also serves currently as a director of Prudential Financial Inc.
Earlier in his career, Unruh served as chief financial officer of Memorex Corporation until it was acquired by Burroughs Corporation, then as chief financial officer of Burroughs from 1982 until 1986. When Burroughs merged with Sperry Corporation to form Unisys in 1986, Unruh was named executive vice president and was responsible for international operations as well as sales and marketing worldwide. Three years later, he was named president and chief operating officer and was promoted to chairman, president and chief executive officer in 1990.
Unruh holds a bachelor’s degree from Jamestown College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Denver.
