DALLAS – May 2, 2008 – Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) today announced the appointment of Steven Barr as chief executive officer of Tenet’s Plaza Specialty Hospital, a 65-bed specialty care hospital located in Houston, Texas. Barr is an accomplished executive with more than 37 years of health care experience, including more than a decade working at Tenet hospitals. He reports to Bob Smith, senior vice president of regional operations for Tenet’s central region.
“I am pleased to announced Steven’s promotion to this leadership position,” Smith said. “His broad experience ranging from the management of Psychiatry and Pharmacy Services to running the emergency department and intensive care units will prove a valuable asset in supporting and promoting the quality care we provide our patients in the Houston market.”
Barr recently served as assistant chief nursing officer at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C. Prior to that role, Barr was associate administrator at Hilton Head Regional Medical Center in Hilton Head, S.C. from 1995 to 2006. In this role, he held the responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the facility emergency department, intensive care unit, and critical care unit.
Barr holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the rotary club of Hilton Head Island, United Way of Beaufort County and a Junior Achievement instructor.
