Tenet recognizes our vital responsibilities as a member of the community: As a provider of health care in partnership with other providers and as part of the spectrum of health care delivery. As such, Tenet has set in writing the commitments we make to the communities in which we operate and where we are considering acquiring or partnering with a not-for-profit hospital or system.
Our Goals
- Tenet will operate with the highest standards of business and professional conduct, and it empowers its employees with the strongest ethics and compliance program in the health care industry.
- Tenet pledges to honor, without interruption, the charity care policies of the hospitals it acquires or with which it affiliates.
- Tenet understands the financial challenges faced by its uninsured patients. It will work diligently with these patients to offer payments and payment schedules that accommodate their individual circumstances.
- Tenet believes in local governance of its hospitals by local physicians and community members. It expects governing boards at its hospitals to ensure that services are tailored to meet specific needs of the communities they serve.
- Tenet recognizes that it can best serve its shareholders only if it best serves its patients’ interests first. It has not paid dividends since the first quarter of fiscal 1994, choosing instead to reinvest net profits into its hospitals and services.
- Tenet pledges to work cooperatively with other healthcare providers in every community in which it operates to help meet the needs of vulnerable populations through the support, creation and maintenance of concrete programs.
- Tenet honors the commitments it makes in each community it serves, and it welcomes full disclosure and monitoring of its fulfillment of these commitments by an Attorney General or other appropriate authority.
- Tenet vows to provide leadership within the business community in advocating for responses to the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.
