Tenet is a leader in finding solutions for the nation’s critical shortage of nurses.  We are proud of our efforts in offering competitive wages and benefits, using technology and innovation to improve working conditions, and treating all our employees fairly and with respect. 

Over the past several years, we have undertaken extensive research to determine the issues that are most important to nurses in the workplace.  Although salary and benefits are important to nurses, our research indicates that nurses today are also concerned about barriers that prevent them from providing the care they want to provide to their patients.  These include poorly trained nurse managers, unreliable scheduling, lack of proper equipment and the increasing physical demands of the job.  We have invested millions of dollars testing and implementing innovative solutions to many of these challenges. 

Some examples of our investments include:

  • We are testing web-based scheduling solutions so that our nurses can be more involved personally in the scheduling process.  This includes systems that automatically notify our nurses when schedule changes are made and that make such changes based on work preferences entered by the nurses themselves.
  • We are using technology to reduce conditions that reduce nurse morale.  For example,  we have given nurses pocket-sized portable phones so they can take phone calls from physicians and others without leaving the patient’s bedside.
