Description

The Chief Business Development Officer, Central Region reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Central Region.

This executive will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of tactical elements of the hospitals’ business initiatives.  This individual has responsibility for market analytics, product line development by hospital, and new market development.  He/she will observe physician utilization of the hospitals and their competitors.

The Chief Business Development Officer, Central has responsibility for implementing marketing strategies to promote the regional and local business initiatives, working closely with hospital CEO’s to develop those strategies and to take advantage of synergies within the region.

The Chief Business Development Officer, Central is also responsible for the following:

¨      Maintain close working relationships with the hospital CEO’s.  Responsible to senior management on volume and other data points.

¨      Market Analytics: Work with the hospital DBD’s as they meet with local community leaders to analyze growth plans and area demographics to determine future healthcare needs of the local markets.

¨      Service/Product Line Development by hospital.  Recommend new hospital services and other avenues for the medical staff to expand local practices.

¨      Research, analyze and evaluate trends within the healthcare community and recommend programs and services designed to increase hospital utilization.

¨      Work collaboratively with hospital staff to develop strategies that support the acquisition of new business for both the hospitals and their medical staffs.  Responsible for CER development for large projects.

¨      Work with hospitals’ marketing and communications staff on regional product line marketing initiatives designed to achieve synergies with other Tenet hospitals.

¨      New Market Development:  Accountable for planning and tracking the regional business initiatives; guide the internal process of identifying and prioritizing the hospitals’ business initiatives for the upcoming year.

¨      Develop, track and report on progress of business initiatives.

¨      Responsible for talent management with the hospital CEO’s for the local/hospital DBD’s.

¨      Responsible for CON preparation in markets where applicable.

Qualifications

An undergraduate degree is required and a graduate degree, ideally an MBA/MHA, is highly desirable.

Ten years’ healthcare management level experience in strategic planning, business development, market research or related executive area.

Knowledge of healthcare organization and administration and of standards and laws applicable to managing business development and planning issues with hospital operations.

Knowledge of healthcare, strategic and financial planning.

Proven financial management skills, capable of reaching closure and timely accomplishment of objectives with a focus on P & L.

Strong project management skills and follow-through from vision to execution, with measurable results to the bottom line.

Knowledge of principles of interactive planning, participatory management and influence management.

Skilled at executing strategy and problem solving; asks the right questions, follows up and determines the facts, setting priorities based on business opportunity.  Skilled at spotting trends and developments.  Able to direct the development of business plans and proformas.

The knowledge and willingness to take necessary and prudent risks to attain success.

Excellent at team building and motivating people.  Able to identify the right people to execute strategic opportunities and motivate people to act whether they are peers, subordinates, physicians or administrators.  Skilled at accomplishing goals through others.  Comfortable allowing the team to take credit for business accomplishments.  Proficient at being a teacher, mentor and coach.
